WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THE ISLAND?

Anytime of the year is a good time. The island is very near to Kota Kinabalu and the boat journey 10-15 minutes. However, rain is expected in Sabah during year end.

ARE BATH TOWEL AND OTHER PERSONAL TOILETTERIES PROVIDED?

Yes, bath towel are provided in the room. Nevertheless, guests are advised to bring their own personal toiletteries.

WHAT DO THE ACCOMMODATIONS LOOK LIKE?

Nestled in the jungle amongst trees, in a natural setting connected by footbridges. Our room are with balcony on the hill slope with attached bathroom. Water heater is not available in the bathroom. Rooms are fitted with mosquito netting. Fan is provided in the room.

WHAT PRECAUTION SHOULD I TAKE AGAINST MOSQUITOES OR OTHER INSECTS?

You are surrounded with nature so it is advised to bring insect repellent with you.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR WHILE WALKING ON THE BEACH?

The Island is endowed with white sandy beaches and warm sea water that you will enjoy waddling in it. However, it is also a natural habitat of rays and sea urchins. Please tread lightly and have your flip flop on.

IF I LEARN TO SCUBA DIVE AT MARI MARI DIVE CENTRE, IS MY LICENSE RECOGNIZED WORLDWIDE?

Yes. We are a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) authorized Dive Resort and divers we certified are recognized all over the world.

HOW CAN I PAY MY BILLS ON THE ISLAND? IS CREDIT CARD OPTION AVAILABLE?

Only cash is accepted on the island and recently online banking and E-wallet (Boost) is also available on the island.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF MY TRIP IS CANCELLED DUE TO BAD WEATHER?

If the trip is cancelled due to factors that are beyond our control (weather, sea condition, or other natural disaster or occurrences), we will refund the fee in full after deducting any finance charges that may have been incurred. However, we refuses liability of any damage, inconveniences, or costs that may have been incurred as a result of the cancellation.

WHAT HAPPEN IF I AM UNABLE TO PROCEED WITH THE TRIP?

Kindly note that our cancellation policy as follows:
50% of full package payment will be forfeited for cancellation made within 15 - 30 days from tour date;
75% of full package payment will be forfeited for cancellation made within 8 - 14 days from tour date;
25% of full package payment will be forfeited for cancellation made within 7 days from tour date. 

IF I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY ACTIVITY IN THE PACKAGE OFFERED, WILL I GET ANY REFUND?

No refund will be given for any services that is not utilized by the guests at their own option. A refund rate to be determined by us will be given for any services that could not be rendered by us in the event of adverse sea, weather, or other conditions necessary for service.

CAN I JOIN THE TOUR IF I AM PREGNANT?

We do not advise pregnant women to join our tour as the boat journey can get rough at times. However, given fair weather and calm sea, the trip is possible but subject to the management’s discretions.

IS THERE ELECTRICITY ON THE ISLAND? CAN I BRING MY OWN ELECTRONIC APPLIANCES SUCH AS LAPTOP WHICH REQUIRES CHARGING?

Electricity on the island is powered by solar panels and is supplied at 12 volts DC which is not suitable for most electronic appliances. However, we do have very limited power supply socket at certain of our rooms (mostly all rooms located at the beach area).

IS CAMPING AVAILABLE ON THE ISLAND? ARE UTILITIES SUCH AS CAMPING GROUND AND TENTS PROVIDED?

Camping are available upon request.

WILL THERE BE CLEAN WATER SUPPLY ON THE ISLAND?

All drinking water are brought in from the mainland and guests may purchase from our shop. Shower water is filtered spring water but it is not safe for drinking. Please do not drink directly from the tap.

SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT THE WILD MONKEYS OR OTHER WILDLIFE AROUND MY LODGE? ARE THERE ANY POISONOUS ANIMALS/INSECTS/REPTILES AROUND THAT I SHOULD BE WORRIED OF?

As our accommodations are in a very natural setting, we always advise guests to be careful and take precautions at all times.

WHAT ARE THE CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIME? AND CAN I STAY ON THE ISLAND AFTER CHECK OUT?

Check in time is 1300hrs & check out time is 1000hrs. And yes, you can stay to enjoy the facilities after checking out subject to appropriate payments that apply.

WILL THERE BE HEATING FACILITIES SUCH AS MICROWAVE?

No. The island electricity supply does not support such appliances.

CAN I DIVE WITHOUT THE LICENSE?

Guest can try our Discover Scuba Dive package where you can learn about the basics of diving with our Professional Dive Instructor.

DO YOU SELL OTHER ITEMS ON THE ISLAND? (SOFT DRINKS, BEER, SNACKS, ETC.)

Yes, snacks and soft drinks are available at the shop.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I NED TO WALK AROUND THE ISLAND?

The Island is quite large and has step cliffs at parts, it is not advisable to walk around the island. You can try trekking up the hill. However, kindly note that you are not advised to trek without our crew. No well-established trail is available at the moment. For more information, please refer to our crew.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE BIG LUGGAGE?

Guests are advice to only bring essential items to the island as the location of rooms are on the higher ground. The walk up might be challenging with heavy bags. Guest can keep their non-essential items at Counter 12 located at Jesselton Point Jetty. However, it is at your own risk as the Management will not be responsible for items kept under left luggage.

CAN I JOIN TOURS DURING MY STAY?

Yes, we can arrange other tours so kindly refer to our crew for more information.

HOW IS THE PHONE NETWEORK COVERAGE ON THE ISLAND?

Reception for most mobile service on the island is good, 4G connection is also available.

HOW IS THE WATER VISIBILITY?

Visibility is normally good on clear day with fair weather. However, it might be vary with the weather due to proximity to the mainland.

HOW BIG IS THE ISLAND?

Approximately 800 acres in area.

IS THERE ANY VILLAGES ON THE ISLAND? IF YES, CAN I WALK TO THE VILLAGE?

Yes, there is a village on the island but the walk is not advisable due to steep hills and rocky shore.

CAN I WALK IN TO THE JUNGLE BY MYSELF, WITHOUT GUIDE/STAFFS? 

No, that is not advisable especially in an unfamiliar jungle. Guests should always be accompanied by our staffs. Please refer to our crew for more information.

IS THERE ANY BOAT SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM THE ISLAND TO KOTA KINABALU?

Shuttle to the mainland or other island in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park may be arranged subject to availability and appropriate charges.

IS THERE ANY ATM ON THE ISLAND FOR OUR CONVENIENCE?

No. ATM is not available on the island.

ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS/TOURS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY, OR PEOPLE WITH MOBILITY DIFFICULTIES?

The Beach View Chalet, Rustic Rooms, Mangan Rooms, and Bujangan Rooms is right next to the beach and is suitable for guest with mobility difficulties or young children. The Hornbill Hill Chalets are about 30m above ground which requires some physical exertion and minimum level of fitness. Handicapped facilities are not available on the island.

WHAT IS PROVIDED IN THE ROOMS?

Rooms are fitted with mosquito net. Electric fan and USB charger are provided in the rooms. Water heater is not available in the bathrooms.

IS IT A PRIVATE ISLAND, CAN I SUNBATHING NUDE?

No. Nude sunbathing is prohibited in Malaysia.

IS LAUNDRY SERVICE AVAILABLE?

No. Unfortunately, we don’t offer any laundry service at the island.

DO I NEED ANY CERTIFICATION FOR DIVING?

Yes. Divers must present a valid scuba diving certification card (e.g., PADI, SSI, NAUI) for certified dives. However, Non-certified divers are not allowed to dive independently. Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) participants must be at least 10 years old and will be closely supervised by a certified instructor.
